Why We Ditched Codecanyon and Embraced Freemius for Palleon

Palleon has been a popular choice for WordPress users seeking a powerful and intuitive image editor. For years, we’ve been offering our plugin on Codecanyon, a well-known marketplace for digital assets. However, we’ve recently made a significant decision to transition from Codecanyon to Freemius, a platform that enables developers to sell their plugins directly on their own websites.

In this post, we’ll delve into the reasons behind this shift and explore the benefits that Freemius offers both to us as developers and to you as our valued customers.

1. Increased Control and Flexibility

  • Ownership: By moving to Freemius, we’ve gained complete ownership of our plugin’s sales and distribution channels. This means we have greater control over pricing, updates, and marketing strategies.
  • Customization: Freemius provides us with the flexibility to customize our sales process and customer experience to align with our brand and values.
  • Direct Relationship with Customers: We can now build a more direct relationship with our customers, allowing for better communication, support, and personalized interactions.

2. Enhanced Customer Experience

  • Seamless Purchasing: Freemius offers a streamlined purchasing process, making it easier for our customers to acquire Palleon.
  • Subscription-Based Model: The subscription model ensures that our customers always have access to the latest features and updates, without having to purchase new licenses.
  • Dedicated Support: As a Freemius customer, you’ll receive dedicated support directly from our team, ensuring a faster and more efficient resolution to any issues you may encounter.

3. Improved Revenue and Sustainability

  • Recurring Revenue: The subscription-based model provides us with a more stable and predictable revenue stream, allowing us to invest in ongoing development and support for Palleon.
  • Reduced Dependence on Third-Party Platforms: By selling directly on our own website, we’re reducing our reliance on third-party marketplaces, which can be subject to changes and fluctuations.

I have a Codecanyon license. What should I do now?

You have two options;

  1. You can continue using the latest version of Palleon that you downloaded from your Codecanyon account (Once a file is permanently removed from Envato, the item can no longer be offered for download. For this reason, you should download your files immediately after purchase. If you recently purchased the plugin but not downloaded yet, you can contact Envato support and ask for a refund). Please note that you will not be able to receive new updates as the plugin is no longer available on Codecanyon. Also, you will need to disable some modules (default templates, default elements, default frames, etc.) from the plugin settings as our svg library will no longer be accessible to you.
  2. To continue receiving updates and to access to the svg library, you can subscribe to the plan that best suits your needs on our pricing page.

Migration from v3.x to v4.x

Delete the old version of Paleon (and all Palleon add-ons), upload and activate the new zip file from your WP dashboard as you did before. You will not lose any data such as custom templates, elements, etc. Read the updated documentation for more information.

Conclusion

Our decision to transition from Codecanyon to Freemius was driven by a desire to provide a better experience for our customers and to gain greater control over our business. We believe that Freemius offers a more sustainable and flexible platform for selling Palleon, and we’re excited about the opportunities it presents for both us and our users.

Thank you for your continued support of Palleon!
